In spite of there is progress in prevention of CVD, it has been highly inadequate and uneven, particularly in middle income and low Countries. Voluntary global targets have helped to stimulate resources, attention and accountability on harmful use of alcohol, tobacco use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity which are the major behavioural causes of CVD.These in turn show up in people as raised blood pressure, elevated blood glucose and overweight and obesity, risks detrimental to good healthy heart.

CVD survival rate in US and NH adults

Cardiovascular disease, accounts for nearly 836,546 deaths in the US. That is about 1 of every 3 deaths in the US. Each day about 2,300 Americans die of cardiovascular disease, an average of 1 death every 38 seconds. Cardiovascular diseases hold more lives each year than all forms of cancer and Chronic Diseases combined.

About 92.1 million American adults are living with the after-effects of stroke or some form of cardiovascular disease. Direct and indirect costs of total stroke and cardiovascular diseases are estimated to total more than $329.7 billion; that includes both health lost productivity and expenditures. Nearly half of all Non-Hispanic black adults have some form of cardiovascular disease, 46.0 per cent of males and 47.7 per cent of females.

 

 CVD survival rate in Europe

Attributable to cardiovascular disease in the US Coronary Heart Disease is the leading cause (43.8 percent) of deaths, followed by Heart Failure (9.0percent), High Blood Pressure (9.4 percent),  Stroke (16.8 percent), diseases of the arteries (3.1 percent), and other cardiovascular diseases (17.9 percent).

Each year CVD causes 3.9 million deaths in Europe and over 1.8 million deaths in the European Union (EU).CVD accounts for 45% of all deaths in Europe and 37% of all deaths in the EU.Over the past 25 years, the number of CVD cases has increased in Europe and in the EU, with increases in the number of new CVD cases found in most countries.
